Khmer Inheritance Artists Association

Khmer Inheritance Artists Association (K.I.A.A.)

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA

K.I.A.A., is a music school founded by Sophun & Reaksmey Ty. Their mission is to “keep Khmer traditions of arts culture alive in the churches and nation of Cambodia.” Through teaching tradition Khmer dance as well as Western classical music, they believe the arts can transform the lives of the foster children they serve.

In the spring of 2022, we shipped the majority of our YaGe instruments and the music lessons began spilling over China’s borders into the hearts of more children.

Music in the Mountains gifted their three-octave set of handbells to foster children living at the Khmer Inheritance Artists Association in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In 2022, Music in the Mountains launched “Handbells in their Hands” project for our students at K.I.A.A. What an exciting experience as we watch the positive effect these instruments are having in the lives of these youth as they continue to study. We love watching their excitement as they grow as musicians and experience the healing power of music. Trauma deeply affects them, but music can transcend those emotions and provide healing.

The “Handbells in their Hands” project allowed students to continue the process of healing from trauma by participating in the K.I.A.A. Handbell Choir.
